The 2-Minute Drill

By: Tom Hanson

I’ve used this drill coaching baseball teams of all ages.

Stop practice and pull all the players together. Tell them you want them to focus like it’s the last inning of a championship game for the next two minutes. Send them back out and pick up practice where you left off. After two minutes bring them back in and ask them what they did during those 2 minutes. What did you focus on? How did you act? What did you say? What did you tell yourself?

Their answers are their keys to focusing more effectively and more consistently.

Baseball doesn’t demand 100% focus all the time, and this drill helps them realize what they need to do to be at their best.
